 |
 |
| 1. I am a student.
How do I access my class? |
To get into your class
on ConnectWeb, go to the following address:
www.connectweb.com/your_school_name_here.asp
We can't tell you the exact address, but try the
obvious.
Edison Community is:
www.connectweb.com/edison.asp
College of DuPage is:
www.connectweb.com/cod.asp
Wright State University is:
www.connectweb.com/wrightstate.asp.
If you can't figure it out, your teacher, or a
classmate, has the information. |
 |
| 2. Do I need a
special browser to use ConnectWeb? |
|
No. You can use either
Netscape or Internet Explorer, but both must be at least
version 4.0. As with most things, the newer the better.
If you do not know what version your Windows browser is,
check under your browser's Help menu. You'll see About
Netscape or Internet Explorer. On the Mac, with the
browser active, go to the Apple menu, and the top item
will be About Netscape or Internet Explorer. If you want
a newer version of your browser: |
 |
Internet
Explorer: Go to http://microsoft.com/downloads/and
choose your operating system and Internet Explorer from
pulldown menus. You can download at no cost.
|
 |
Netscape: Go to
http://netscape.com/.
At the top of your screen is a series of tabs. The next
to the last one is New Download. Click on it, and
Netscape will determine the computer you're using. You
can then download the latest version of Netscape. The
download begins with a small file that, when installed,
takes over and downloads and installs the complete
program. This is a free download. |

 |
| 3. How do I get a
password? |
|
Teachers and students
create their own passwords. When you log in to
ConnectWeb using your login name, there is a
blank password field. If you put nothing there, you
don't have a password, until you type one in the box.
Anything you type ConnectWeb remembers.

 |
| 4. Can students
revise work being done in a Word file in
ConnectWeb? |
|
Not in
ConnectWeb per se, because you can't work on a
Word file in a browser. Once a student uploads a Word
file (or any word-processed file), the paper can be
worked on only by the word processor. When revised, it
should be uploaded again. |

 |
| 5. Can a teacher
read student papers while they are working on them?
|
|
Literally "as they
work on them"? No. But you can read their writing as
soon as it is posted. Go to Papers. Choose the
assignment from the pulldown menu. You'll see a list of
all students in your class and if and when they have
posted a paper. Click on the Read paper icon. To
comment on them, use the private Message
function. |

 |
| 6. Can a teacher
post a paper so that all the class can read it?
|
|
If you post a paper
when in you're in student mode, everyone in the class or
group can read it. If you are working in small groups,
and you want everyone in the group to read one another's
papers, post a new assignment for that group.

 |
| 7. How do I log
off ConnectWeb? |
|
ConnectWeb does
not have a logoff function, because the temporary cookie
that it uses to keep track of you, your class, your
papers, and your comments is active until you quit the
browser. So the way to logoff is to quit the browser.
